In the past decade, LGBTQI people around the globe have witnessed incredible progress in both legal reforms and shifting social attitudes. In fact, over 100 of the United Nations’ member states have reformed legislation and enacted measures protecting the rights of LGBTQI individuals.

While in Hong Kong legislation and employment protections still greatly lag behind, some organisations – including the Equal Opportunities Commission, many international businesses and several pioneering local companies – lead the way in fighting discrimination in the workplace and push for equal treatment within the community.

We believe Hugill & Ip is at the forefront in the fight to push for increased rights, enhance protection and create an environment where diversity & inclusion matter. One of the core elements of our mission is to advance legal awareness related to the LGBTQI cause. As a result, a great deal of our firm’s pro-bono work is focused on this issue, leveraging different resources to make the necessary social and environmental change which we hope will ultimately lead to full equality.

We ensure that there is no discrimination in the recruitment, employment, working conditions, benefits, respect for privacy, or treatment of harassment. We provide support to employees to be their true selves so that they can work with dignity and without stigma. We aim to set an example for small and medium organisations to embrace a similar attitude and to create awareness at a societal level about pressing legal issues.

Specifically, the HIP pride wishes to push legal awareness about LGBTQI issues to the next level.
