Join us on 20 December (at 7PM) at the Hong Kong Football Club in Happy Valley (3 Sports Road, HK) for an exciting match of mixed-gender field hockey aimed at raising awareness for children’s rights! Organized by the Legal Services Hockey Team – a group of solicitors, barristers, and other legal professionals – and sponsored by Hugill & Ip. This initiative seeks to shine a spotlight on critical issues related to children.

The event

The charity field hockey game feature teams composed of players from various backgrounds, promoting inclusivity and teamwork. Spectators of all ages are welcome to come and cheer on their favorite teams while supporting a noble cause. The Lawyers team will play the Correctional Services Department team.

Founded in 2021, the Legal Services Hockey Team has been actively raising funds and awareness for children’s rights. This dedicated group of legal professionals is committed to making a difference in the lives of children through advocacy and community engagement.

The importance of Children’s Rights

Children’s rights are fundamental human rights that ensure every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe, healthy environment. Many children still face challenges such as poverty, discrimination, and lack of access to education. The event aims to raise awareness and funds to support initiatives that protect and promote these rights.

The Hong Kong Committee on Children’s Rights (HKCCR), established in 1992 and granted charitable status in 1995, is dedicated to addressing the needs of children and their rights. They advocate for the four main areas outlined by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC): survival, protection, development, and participation. HKCCR calls on the HKSAR Government to strengthen the Commission on Children as a statutory body, ensuring it operates independently with the necessary resources to effectively represent the voices of children. The establishment of a statutory Commission on Children is crucial for safeguarding the rights of 1.1 million children under the age of 18 in Hong Kong. This independent body should have the authority to address individual complaints, conduct investigations, and ensure that children have access to effective remedies for any breaches of their rights.
