Hugill & Ip joins Pink Friday again!
Friday 19 November 2021 marks the celebration of LGBT+ inclusion by making the invisible truly visible. Pink Friday is a collective community effort where organisations across different industries encourage their employees to wear pink shirts. These organisations host various events to help raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues. This year Hugill & Ip, alongside more than 80 organisations in Hong Kong and the region, wear pink to show support for diversity and LGBT+ inclusion.
Hugill & Ip’s founding partners – Adam Hugill and Alfred Ip – discuss marriage equality and employment issues related to the LGBTQ+ community. Azan Marwah – Counsel at Resolution Chambers – also joins in and highlights legal arguments and strategies to achieve equality. He goes through practical issues impacting same-sex couples on marriage, children, housing, tax, medical issues and inheritance.
Pink Friday first began in 2014 when a group of Goldman Sachs Hong Kong employees wore pink T-shirts to show their support of a LGBTQ-inclusive work environment. In the following years it expanded across other divisions and offices across Asia Pacific and then into Europe. In 2019, 60 organisations in Hong Kong participated in the inaugural multi-industry event, and in 2020 it expanded to 65 organisations in Asia Pacific. This event brings together companies that are passionate about diversity and have worked hard to promote inclusive work environments in Asia Pacific.
In late 2021, Hugill & Ip has organised several internal and external events to enhance awareness in our community on the advancement of diversity and inclusion, the progress achieved and the progress still needed to protect same-sex couples’ rights.
